Upcoming Event: One-Sailing Towards A Horizon of Hope
Documentary Premiere and Reception July 23, 2009 7:00 pm
We are excited to announce that on Thursday, July 23, 2009, American University Key Executive Leadership MPA Program, School of Public Affairs, is hosting the Documentary Premiere of One – Sailing Towards a Horizon of Hope.
The 30-minute documentary chronicles the Fairhaven’s Project’s 2008 inaugural session as three Israeli and three Palestinian youth live and work side-by-side aboard the 74-foot brigantine tall ship, S/V Fritha. Working together to navigate, prepare meals and share talk about how their lives have been shaped by conflict and violence, barriers began to break down and ‘perceived enemies’ become teammates and friends. The documentary is being used by U.S. Embassies and Consulates in conflicted regions to stimulate student discussion and extend the project’s message of peace and understanding to larger audiences.
All six Israeli and Palestinian students who participated in the 2008 inaugural session and appear in the film will be on-hand at the event to share their experiences. Joining the six will be four new Palestinian and Israeli students participating in the 2009 session.
The event will be held at American University’s Katzen Center @ 7:00 pm. The event is free of charge and open to the public but advance reservations are required. You may register by mail, fax, email or phone.
